A normal week starts with dispatch providing the freight plan based on customer production schedules. Drivers often begin at the Milwaukee terminal, customer drop yard, or supplier location. First moves frequently involve Milwaukee to Kenosha or Waukesha to Chicago lanes depending on current plant needs.
Mid-week brings peak activity with two to four scheduled movements daily. These include plant-to-plant transfers, supplier pickups, and warehouse deliveries. Drop-and-hook dominates at larger facilities while live loading occurs at others. Dispatch adjusts assignments for production changes, trailer availability, and backhaul positioning between Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, Madison, and Chicago-area sites.
Friday focuses on final deliveries, trailer repositioning, and equipment returns to set up the next week. Most drivers complete their 10-hour break at home. Overnight parking happens only on occasional extended runs using approved customer yards or secure truck stops along I-94 and I-41 corridors.
