Position Overview

Our recruiting team is hiring experienced CDL-A flatbed drivers on behalf of a confidential regional carrier for building materials runs out of the Phoenix metro area. This account moves structural steel, rebar, drywall, roofing, and other construction supplies to job sites and distributors across Arizona and into neighboring states.

Drivers handle a mix of live loads and some drop trailers from suppliers in Tolleson, Buckeye, Mesa, and west Phoenix. Routes stay mostly regional with good backhaul opportunities from Las Vegas, Albuquerque, Tucson, and Ontario. The operation fits drivers who know proper securement and want steady work tied to Southwest construction demand rather than long-haul unpredictability.

Hiring Corridor: Lanes run primarily out of Phoenix industrial areas along I-10, I-17, and connecting highways to Las Vegas, Albuquerque, El Paso, and Southern California.

Pay Structure for This Account

Drivers earn $0.62–$0.68 per mile depending on experience plus tarp pay, stop pay, and detention. Most weeks fall between 2,200 and 2,500 miles with consistent freight from ongoing construction projects.

Tarp pay runs $35 per load when needed. Extra stops add $30 each after the first. Detention starts after two hours at $20 per hour. The combination of mileage, securement time, and accessorials keeps weekly earnings steady around $1,650 on average.

Typical Day

Most shifts start early with pre-trip inspection on your assigned tractor. Dispatch sends load details the night before or early morning. You head to a supplier yard in Tolleson or west Phoenix, complete securement with chains, straps, and tarps, then roll out on I-10 or I-17.

Deliveries usually hit appointment windows in the morning or early afternoon. After unloading you often pick up a backhaul from another industrial area before heading back toward Phoenix. Securement checks happen after loading, at 50 miles, and as needed. Days wrap up with paperwork and post-trip at the yard or home.

Phoenix Flatbed Trucking Market & Construction Freight

Phoenix remains one of the strongest regional construction markets in the Southwest. Ongoing residential development, commercial projects, infrastructure upgrades, and distribution growth create steady demand for flatbed drivers hauling building materials. CDL-A jobs in Phoenix for flatbed drivers benefit from this consistent activity rather than seasonal swings seen in other regions.

Major freight corridors like I-10 connect Phoenix to Tucson and California markets while I-17 heads north to Flagstaff. US-93 links to Las Vegas. Drivers regularly service industrial parks in Tolleson, Buckeye, and Mesa where steel fabricators and material suppliers load outbound freight. Backhauls from Southern California, Nevada, and New Mexico help maintain loaded miles on the return.

Truck driving jobs in Phoenix often involve early starts to beat summer heat. Dispatchers plan around appointment windows at construction sites and distribution yards. Flatbed securement skills remain essential here because most loads require chains, tarps, and edge protection for steel beams, rebar, and lumber. Local CDL-A opportunities like this one let drivers stay closer to home compared to coast-to-coast OTR runs.

The Phoenix metro area hosts numerous building supply distributors and manufacturing facilities that generate year-round freight. Spring and fall see increased residential and commercial activity while large infrastructure projects provide additional volume. Drivers familiar with desert conditions, mountain grades on I-17, and urban congestion around Loop 101 and Loop 202 perform well on these lanes.

Regional CDL jobs in the Phoenix area continue to attract experienced flatbed drivers who prefer predictable regional work with solid accessorial earnings. Construction-related freight rarely disappears completely, giving drivers more stability than spot market or seasonal agricultural hauls. Many carriers in this market value drivers who understand proper cargo securement and can manage live load/unload situations at job sites.

For commercial driver jobs near Phoenix, this flatbed building materials account stands out because of its focus on established customer relationships rather than constant load board chasing. Drivers return to the Phoenix terminal regularly, making it easier to maintain equipment and handle personal needs without long resets on the road.
