Position Overview

This local drayage opportunity is available with a confidential mid-sized regional carrier operating in the Port of New York & New Jersey. Drivers handle container moves between marine terminals, rail facilities, distribution centers, and customer locations throughout northern New Jersey and nearby areas.

Work centers on the busy Port Newark and Elizabeth terminals. Drivers navigate gate appointments, chassis interchanges, and metropolitan traffic while moving import and export freight. Most shifts start and end at the Newark terminal, providing true home daily operations.

Primary activity focuses on container drayage along I-95, I-78, and local port access roads, with steady volume from one of the East Coast’s largest container gateways.

Typical Day

Shifts usually begin between 5:00 AM and 7:00 AM at the Newark terminal. Drivers complete a pre-trip inspection on their assigned day cab tractor, review container assignments, and head to Port Newark or Maher Terminal after confirming gate appointments.

Most days involve two to four container moves. This includes picking up loaded containers at the port, delivering to warehouses in Secaucus, Edison, or Cranbury, then reloading or returning empties. Terminal wait times vary with vessel activity and congestion. Dispatch adjusts loads throughout the day via the Samsara system.

Drivers return to the terminal at shift end for post-trip inspection and paperwork submission. Weekend work rotates based on port schedules.
