Hiring Radius: Within 50 miles of Newark, NJ
● Terminal Location: Newark Area Fuel Terminal
This position is available with a confidential employer. Our recruiting team is hiring experienced CDL-A drivers for local petroleum tanker runs based out of the Newark fuel network.
Experienced CDL-A drivers are needed for local fuel tanker deliveries supporting the Newark–Elizabeth energy corridor and surrounding Northern New Jersey markets. This role focuses on moving gasoline, diesel, and heating oil from regional terminals to commercial customers, construction sites, truck stops, and fleet operations across Essex, Union, Bergen, Hudson, and Middlesex counties.
Drivers start and end each shift at the local terminal. Routes stay within a 50–100 mile radius with predictable day and evening windows. The work requires strict safety protocols, tanker handling skills, and comfort operating in dense metro traffic near the Port of New York and New Jersey.
Shifts usually begin between 3:00 AM and 7:00 AM at the Newark-area terminal. Drivers complete a thorough pre-trip inspection on their assigned day cab tractor, review the delivery manifest, and load assigned compartments at the fuel rack using proper grounding and vapor recovery procedures.
Most runs involve 4–8 stops delivering to gas stations, construction sites, fleet yards, and municipal locations. Deliveries use hoses and pumps with live unloading at every stop. Dispatch provides updates throughout the day for traffic, customer changes, or additional loads. Drivers return to the terminal at the end of the shift for post-trip inspection and paperwork.
Traffic around Newark Airport, Jersey City, and Turnpike interchanges is common. Dispatch monitors conditions and adjusts routes to maintain delivery windows.
Pay reflects tanker endorsement, HazMat requirements, and metro delivery conditions. Additional safety and performance bonuses available quarterly.
Northern New Jersey remains one of the strongest markets for fuel tanker drivers due to the Port of New York and New Jersey, extensive petroleum storage infrastructure, and steady demand from retail, construction, and commercial fleets. Drivers based near Newark benefit from short-radius runs that avoid long-haul fatigue while providing specialized tanker experience.
The area features heavy freight movement along the NJ Turnpike, I-95, and connecting routes like I-280 and I-80. Fuel terminals around Newark Bay supply gasoline, diesel, and heating oil year-round, with peaks during winter heating season and summer travel periods. This creates consistent local work for qualified CDL-A drivers holding tanker and HazMat endorsements.
CDL-A jobs in Newark often emphasize safety compliance and metro driving skills. Fuel tanker positions stand out because they combine daily home time with higher hourly rates that reflect the specialized nature of the work. Drivers navigate tight industrial access points, port-area congestion, and dense suburban delivery zones while maintaining strict loading and unloading protocols.
For truck driving jobs in Newark focused on energy distribution, this account offers stable volume from established terminals serving Morris, Bergen, and Middlesex counties. The operation avoids spot market volatility common in dry van work and provides terminal-based parking and support each night.
Commercial driver jobs in this corridor also benefit from proximity to major logistics hubs. Experienced tanker drivers find reliable hours without multi-day layovers, making it attractive for those wanting predictable schedules near family in the New York metropolitan region.
