🗺 Location & Routes

  • Base: Atlanta terminal and major rail yards (Fairburn, Austell, Forest Park)
  • Operations: Short-haul drayage throughout greater Atlanta metro and surrounding counties
  • Freight: 20' and 40' intermodal shipping containers (dry vans and occasional reefers)
  • Typical areas: Stone Mountain, Conyers, McDonough, Douglasville warehouses and distribution centers

📦 Yard Flow Behavior

Rail terminal work starts early. Expect chassis swaps, paperwork at the gate, seal checks, and container inspections. Some mornings run smooth with quick turnarounds. Others stack up with rail congestion or chassis shortages. Drivers handle 4–8 moves on busier days. Drop-and-hook is common, but live loads/unloads at customer docks happen regularly. Back to the yard or terminal most nights.

🚛 What the Day Actually Looks Like

Your shift usually kicks off between 4-8 AM. Dispatcher or tablet drops the first move — often pulling from one of the Atlanta rail ramps. Run the loaded container to a warehouse, drop it, maybe pick up an empty or reposition. Traffic on I-285, I-75 and I-85 can eat hours during rush periods. Dock waits are normal. You’ll climb containers, connect air and lights, verify seals, and do thorough pre and post trips. Days end when the work is done, usually back in the Atlanta area by evening.
