🗺 Location & Routes

  • Terminal base: Greensboro / Piedmont Triad area, NC
  • Primary lanes: I-40, I-85, I-95 corridors serving NC, SC, VA, parts of GA & TN
  • Freight type: Retail merchandise, consumer goods, store supplies in 53' dry vans
  • Operation style: Mix of drop-and-hook at DCs and multi-stop live deliveries to retail stores

📋 Shift Flow From the Terminal

Most runs start with pre-trip at the yard or terminal, grabbing a pre-loaded trailer. You'll handle linehaul legs to distribution points or direct to big-box stores and smaller outlets across the Southeast. Expect 2–4 stops on many days with dock appointments that don't always run on time. Backhauls are usually light or empty. Dispatch posts loads the night before or early morning. Traffic around the Triad and Charlotte corridors hits hard during rush hours, and retail receiving windows can create wait time during peak seasons.

Weekly mileage lands between 1,800–2,600 depending on the board and volume. Retail supply chain means some days finish early, others run longer with multi-stops and occasional detention after the first 30 minutes.

🚛 Fleet Setup You'll Be Running

  • Tractors: Mostly 2018–2024 models with automatic transmissions
  • Trailers: Standard 53' dry vans, mix of newer and mid-age units
  • Assignment: No dedicated truck at start — assigned after probation based on performance and seniority
  • Support: Company shops plus vendor roadside, ELDs required

📦 Retail Delivery Cycle Realities

Freight moves from regional DCs in the Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point area to stores across the region. Drop-and-hook is common at distribution centers, but store deliveries often require live unloads or hand-offs. Peak retail periods (holidays, back-to-school) increase volume and can stretch days with extra stops and dock delays. No-touch on many loads, but expect variability when stores run behind schedule.

🛣️ Piedmont Corridor Patterns & Congestion

  • Common routes include runs toward Charlotte, Raleigh, parts of South Carolina and Virginia
  • Interstate driving mixed with metro deliveries where traffic and store access add time
  • Variable daily operations typical of retail supply chains
  • Rotating schedules with early starts and potential evening finishes on multi-stop days

Real Questions From Drivers on This Account

How consistent are the hours week to week?

Most drivers average 45–55 hours. Retail volume fluctuates — slower periods mean fewer hours, peaks push higher. Expect variability.

Will I be home every night?

Most runs allow home daily or every other day depending on the board and schedule. Weekend work happens during peak retail seasons but is not every week.

What about detention pay?

$22.50 per hour after 30 minutes on applicable loads. Stop pay applies on multi-stop runs.

Is this good for drivers who prefer steady regional work?

Yes. This is dedicated retail linehaul with predictable base routes but typical retail operational realities.

🔗 CDL-A Dedicated Retail Linehaul Driver – Greensboro, NC

Mid-sized regional carrier out of the Piedmont Triad is looking for experienced CDL-A drivers for dedicated retail linehaul work. Runs focus on moving general merchandise and store supplies between distribution centers and retail locations across North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and parts of Georgia and Tennessee. Drivers handle a mix of drop-and-hook at DCs and multi-stop deliveries with the usual retail realities — dock delays, variable unload times, and traffic around urban store areas on I-40, I-85 and I-95 corridors. Hourly pay starts at $29.50–$32.75 depending on experience plus activity and detention pay. Most drivers pull 45–55 hours weekly with estimates of $1,250–$1,650 per week. Home time is strong for this type of dedicated work — most are home daily or every other day with rotating schedules. Fleet consists of late model automatics and solid 53' dry vans maintained in-house. This isn't the highest mileage OTR position but offers stability for drivers who want regional consistency without full over-the-road life. Retail freight has its peaks and slower periods, so hours and loads will vary with seasonal demand. Dispatch works from the Triad terminal and assigns loads with as much notice as retail schedules allow. If you're comfortable with occasional multi-stops, potential dock waiting, and some weekend work during busy retail windows, this dedicated account may fit.
