CDL-A Local Pipe & Steel Hauler – Houston, TX Industrial Supply Routes

This privately owned regional carrier expands its local industrial fleet in Houston and needs CDL-A drivers for daily steel and pipe distribution. Unlike over-the-road flatbed work, every day follows fabrication schedules, refinery maintenance, commercial construction and customer production timelines.

Drivers operate with open-deck trailers transporting structural steel, carbon and stainless pipe, fabricated assemblies, steel plate, tubing and beams between warehouses, shops and active job sites along the Ship Channel and industrial corridors.

• Perform complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections
• Secure cargo using grade-70 chains, ratchet binders, winch straps and edge protectors
• Coordinate with shipping clerks, crane operators and receiving departments
• Maintain accurate ELD logs and delivery documentation

Morning pickups at steel service centers and fabrication shops along the eastern industrial corridor. Deliveries target fabrication facilities, construction sites and industrial contractors in Channelview, Pasadena, Deer Park, La Porte, Baytown and the Ship Channel area. Return empty to nearby warehouses or the Houston terminal when reloads are unavailable. Routes follow I-10 East, SH-225, Beltway 8 and US-90.

• Valid Class A CDL
• 6 months or more of CDL-A experience preferred; flatbed or construction-material hauling experience is an advantage
• Acceptable MVR and stable employment history
• Current DOT Medical Certificate or ability to obtain one before hire
• Ability to climb trailers, secure loads, handle chains and binders, and work outdoors in varying weather

Fabrication shops may complete orders earlier or later than expected, cranes may be occupied by other trucks, or construction sites may suspend unloading while other materials are installed. Refinery turnarounds increase contractor traffic in Deer Park, Baytown and Pasadena. Morning and afternoon congestion on I-10 East, SH-225, Beltway 8, Loop 610 and the Ship Channel corridor affects travel times between stops.
