CDL-A Local Port Container Driver – Houston, TX Marine Terminal Network

A privately operated regional transportation company serving the Houston Gulf Coast freight market is hiring experienced CDL-A drivers for intermodal drayage operations connected with the Port of Houston marine terminal network. The role focuses on daily container movements between marine terminals, customer facilities, distribution locations, and regional industrial customers throughout the Houston metropolitan area and surrounding industrial corridors.

• Transport loaded and empty containers while following dispatch instructions and adapting to changing terminal conditions
• Complete basic equipment checks including chassis condition, tires, lights, securement points, and report damaged equipment before departure
• Manage terminal gate procedures, customer delivery processes, and coordinate empty returns or next assignments with dispatch

Drivers move containers between Port Houston terminals (including Bayport and Barbours Cut), Pasadena industrial facilities, Deer Park, Channelview, La Porte, Baytown, and regional warehouse and distribution locations. Typical moves support manufacturing, petrochemical supply chains, retail imports, construction materials, and machinery. Routes involve terminal pickups, customer deliveries, empty returns, and chassis exchanges within the Houston Ship Channel area, influenced by vessel schedules and industrial demand.

• Valid Class A CDL and current DOT physical qualification
• Acceptable driving history and ability to pass company safety screening
• 6–12 months CDL-A experience preferred; previous container, port, or intermodal experience strongly preferred
• TWIC card or ability to obtain required for terminal access; familiarity with Houston freight corridors and industrial facilities

Port container operations involve terminal congestion, changing appointment windows, chassis availability issues, customer receiving delays, and empty return limitations. Houston traffic on I-10, I-610, TX-225, and Beltway 8, along with Gulf Coast weather events, can impact timing.
