Position Overview

Our recruiting team is hiring experienced CDL-A drivers for a local dedicated retail distribution account based in the Newark area. This position focuses on daily store replenishment and shuttle runs between regional distribution centers and retail locations throughout Northern New Jersey and the surrounding metro area.

Drivers will handle packaged consumer goods and general retail merchandise. Routes stay local with most shifts starting and ending near the Newark terminal. The carrier provides day cab tractors and maintains a focus on metropolitan delivery operations with good support for local traffic and customer appointments.

Operations center around the busy Newark logistics corridor with frequent runs to retail hubs in Paramus, East Brunswick, Secaucus, and Allentown. Primary corridors include the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95), I-78, Garden State Parkway, and Route 17.

Typical Day

Shifts usually start between 4:00 AM and 7:00 AM at the Newark terminal or a nearby DC. You'll begin with a pre-trip inspection on your assigned day cab tractor, hook to a preloaded 53' dry van, and head out on your first delivery.

Most days include 2-4 stops at retail stores or warehouses. Drop and hook is common at DCs, while store deliveries often involve live unload with some paperwork and seal checks. Traffic on I-95 and local routes is factored into schedules. You return to the terminal by late afternoon or early evening.

Freight originates from distribution centers in Newark, Elizabeth, Secaucus, and Edison. Deliveries go to large retail stores, wholesale clubs, and other outlets across Northern New Jersey, parts of the lower Hudson Valley, and Eastern Pennsylvania.

Common lanes include Newark to Paramus, Teterboro, East Brunswick, and Allentown. Expect heavy use of I-95 New Jersey Turnpike, I-78, I-80, Garden State Parkway, Route 17, and I-287. Most runs are under 100 miles one way with multiple stops.

Freight Details

You'll haul packaged consumer goods, seasonal merchandise, household items, health and beauty products, paper goods, and general retail inventory. Loads are palletized and move from regional DCs to store backrooms.

65% drop and hook at distribution facilities. 35% live unload at retail locations. Some liftgate use for ground-level deliveries. Freight is year-round stable with increases during holidays.

Equipment & Fleet

Late-model day cab tractors including Freightliner Cascadia (2021-2024), Kenworth T680, and International LT models. All automatic transmissions with Samsara ELD, forward collision mitigation, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise on newer units. Inward-facing cameras for safety.

Trailers are 53' dry vans, many with swing or roll doors and liftgates for select accounts. Assigned tractors when possible with good maintenance support out of the Newark terminal.

Compensation

Pay is primarily hourly at $29-$33 per hour with overtime after applicable thresholds. Average weekly earnings $1,350-$1,550 based on 45-55 hours. Additional stop pay of $20-$35 after the first stop and detention at $22/hour after the first hour.

Quarterly safety bonus up to $500 and sign-on bonus up to $1,000 paid in installments. Weekly pay with direct deposit.
