The State of Missouri launches a $33 million freight infrastructure project to address the critical truck parking shortage along the vital I-70 east-west corridor.

I-70 SAFETY INITIATIVE

The State of Missouri is moving forward with a major freight infrastructure project aimed at easing one of the trucking industry’s most persistent problems — the shortage of safe truck parking along the heavily traveled Interstate 70 corridor.

Part of Missouri Department of Transportation’s broader Improve I-70 Program, the initiative represents a $33 million investment supported through federal INFRA Grant funding, benefiting many in OTR CDL-A jobs across the USA routes.

255 NEW PARKING SPACES

Missouri will add 255 new public truck parking spaces, increasing total available stalls across the corridor to 506. The expansion will focus on four locations: Concordia, Boonville, Mineola, and Wright City, providing much-needed relief for those in regional CDL-A truck driving jobs.

Beyond parking, the project includes bathroom renovations at Wright City and Concordia, improved lighting, and modernized infrastructure. Drivers can use a truck driver salary calculator to evaluate how reduced downtime searching for parking translates to higher take-home pay.

ADDRESSING THE CRISIS

With over 10,000 trucks traveling I-70 daily, existing parking regularly exceeds capacity. This project directly addresses safety challenges for anyone in owner-operator CDL-A trucking jobs USA, who often face productivity losses searching for legal spots.

"Approximately 75% of private truck stops are over capacity during peak hours, forcing drivers to park on shoulders or highway ramps to stay within compliance."

NATIONAL SUPPLY CHAIN LINK

Interstate 70 serves as a key freight artery connecting distribution hubs and manufacturing centers across the Midwest. The route handles massive volumes of retail, food, agricultural, and general dry van freight essential for national supply chains.

For drivers in local CDL-A truck driving jobs in Missouri, this expansion reduces congestion in local distribution zones, enabling smoother traffic flow and more efficient turnarounds at major logistics terminals.

PUBLIC & PRIVATE ACCESS

While nearly 2,000 private spaces exist along the I-70 corridor, continued growth has pushed infrastructure beyond capacity. This state-led investment is one of the largest in the Midwest, aiming to restore a balance that promotes driver well-being and regulatory compliance.
