How is detention pay calculated?

You get hourly pay after the free waiting period at rail or warehouse gates.

Do weekends come into play?

Optional coverage shifts are available, but most schedules stay Monday–Friday.

💼 Career Opportunities

This intermodal position in Denver is often a long-term entry point into the rail logistics network, not just a short-term driving job. Drivers who perform consistently on yard timing, container handling, and dispatch coordination often move into dedicated intermodal accounts with higher priority freight lanes. Over time, some transition into regional dispatch support roles or trainer positions for new rail yard drivers. Within the Denver logistics ecosystem, experienced intermodal drivers may also qualify for higher-volume dedicated contracts tied to retail distribution networks or cross-terminal shuttle operations. There is also a clear path toward specialized freight handling—such as hazmat container movements or high-security rail cargo—once compliance and safety records are established. For drivers who prefer staying behind the wheel, the intermodal system still offers advancement through priority assignment, better rail release windows, and improved equipment allocation. It’s a stable, repeatable freight environment where reliability often matters more than long mileage.

🔗 CDL-A Intermodal Driver – Denver, CO

Denver CDL-A drivers are seeing steady demand in the intermodal sector thanks to constant rail activity from BNSF and Union Pacific terminals across the Front Range. This local home-daily role focuses on short-haul container drayage between rail yards in Denver, Commerce City, and Aurora distribution hubs. Drivers typically earn $1300–$1700 per week depending on rail volume and completed turns, with additional detention and performance-based incentives. Unlike long-haul trucking, this position stays within the I-25 and I-70 freight corridors, keeping runs short but frequent. Expect multiple container moves per shift, live rail yard coordination, and structured dispatch timing tied to train arrivals. Equipment includes modern Freightliner Cascadia units mixed with Kenworth and Volvo tractors, operating in real-world yard conditions with occasional delays and congestion. For drivers looking for predictable home time, steady freight flow, and a rail-focused logistics environment in Denver, this role offers a practical balance between consistency and daily returns home.
